This update makes ShiftSync more reliable and changes how sleep and power-off work. Your settings, gear calibration and themes are kept when you update.

How to update (over Wi-Fi, a few minutes)

1. Download the v1.3.40 firmware.bin.
2. On ShiftSync, open the Upload app.
3. On your phone or computer, join the Wi-Fi network SHIFTSYNC (password 12345678).
4. Open http://192.168.4.1/ota in a browser and upload firmware.bin.
5. Wait for ShiftSync to restart by itself. Keep it powered the whole time. When it's back, Settings shows FW v1.3.40.

If it doesn't work first time, try again. Updating from the firmware ShiftSync shipped with often takes a few tries: sometimes it works first time, sometimes it takes five or six. ShiftSync may restart partway through, or the browser may show an error. Both are harmless. ShiftSync starts back up on its old firmware with nothing lost. Open Upload again and repeat from step 3.

• If the progress screen stops moving, ShiftSync keeps its Wi-Fi on. Rejoin SHIFTSYNC and repeat from step 4.
• If ShiftSync stays frozen, press BOOT once to put it to sleep, then press BOOT again to start it back up.
• Upload only firmware.bin. Other files are refused.

What's new

• Sleep and wake with the BOOT button. A short press of BOOT puts ShiftSync to sleep, and another press wakes it, on battery or plugged in.
• New power-off control. In Settings, press and hold the power card for 2 seconds. The screen shows "Press BOOT to turn on" and ShiftSync goes to sleep. Press BOOT to turn it back on.
• Music controls keep working after a restart or wake. You no longer need to re-pair your phone when the buttons stop responding.
• ShiftSync recovers from freezes by itself. If the screen ever locks up, the unit restarts automatically instead of staying stuck until the battery runs out.
• Gear indicator fix: on some shifters the gear display used to stay stuck on N. It now follows the lever correctly.
• More reliable Wi-Fi firmware updates.
• The hidden goose in Settings is taking a break. It will be back in a later update.

Good to know

• Plugging in power does not wake ShiftSync. Press BOOT to wake it.
• The upload screen can freeze during a theme or firmware upload. The upload still finishes and is saved. Swipe up to go home and ShiftSync restarts with a working screen. This is fixed in the next update.
• PNG themes can show a black screen. Use a JPG or GIF instead for now.
• Some GIFs show glitchy frames. GIFs saved without optimisation play correctly.
• When the battery runs low, ShiftSync shows "Please charge" but stays on. Charge it when you see the message. ShiftSync also uses a little battery while asleep, so charge it before storing it for a long time.
• The G-Force screen can occasionally restart the unit. The screen fades to black and ShiftSync starts back up by itself, with everything working.
• With the white theme and gear theme colours both on, the selected gear doesn't change colour, because the highlight is white too. Choose another theme colour to see it.
